From Field to Fabrication
Our founder, Darcy Wiebe, worked his way up from the rig floor to lead of one of the industry’s most innovative MWD technology companies. Working on drilling rigs in Canada and the United States, Darcy gained first-hand experience with the challenges of drilling horizontal wells and the unique perspective of knowing what attributes are essential in high performance MWD components. He has worked all positions on the rig floor to an MWD Field engineer, MWD coordinator, MWD manager and owner of a successful directional drilling company before selling it to start Focus Tools.
With this experience, it became clear to Darcy that the industry needed better MWD tools capable of reliably performing in the harshest downhole environments. Longer and deeper horizontal laterals meant components would be exposed to high-temperature, high-vibration and shock environments for longer periods of time. The industry needed a harsh environment tool that would operate consistently and reliably at 200°C, but nothing on the market fit that description.
In 2012, the Focus Tools team stepped forward and began the design and development process of its 200°C MWD tool, and brought its revolutionary components to market in 2014. “Engineered to Extremes,” Focus Tools offers the highest temperature rating of any tool available commercially. Not only are Focus Tools components renowned for their unchallenged ruggedness and ability to function flawlessly in high-temperature, high-vibration and shock environments, they are engineered for ease of installment, breakdown and maintenance, reducing total cost of ownership.

K6 Holdings is addressing a broader focus on the experience that has been gained by our years in the oil and gas industry and applying that experience to other industries to combat the fast evolving issues that arise through increased demand and productivity. K6 still supports all of the products that were developed for the oil and gas industry
